What is TeamGym?

TeamGym has it’s roots in Scandinavia, where it has been a major gymnastics event for some 20 years. The Euroteam competition is one of the most recent additions to the UEG Calendar. The first official competition was held in Finland in 1996 and it now takes place every even-numbered year. TeamGym is a team competition for clubs and consists of three sections: women, men and mixed teams. In each of the three disciplines the number of gymnasts is between 6 and 12.

TeamGym competitions exhibit gymnastic skills in three different disciplines, Floor, Trampette and Tumbling. All 3 require effective team work, excellent technique in the elements and spectacular acrobatic elements. The TeamGym competition generates an excellent spirit and atmosphere. The event is attractive and exciting for spectators, the media, as well as sponsors.

Teams can be women's, men's or mixed.

Floor Programme

Is an optional gymnastic programme, which is performed on a thin mat to music. It encourages good and smooth teamwork and expressive presentation. The Floor Programme is a unity that consists mainly of gymnastic elements. The choice of elements must suit the level and maturity of the team as well as the music. A congruent and good technical performance, properly linked movements, certainty of execution and synchronization as well as expressive presentation is pursued. The Floor routine allows the choreographer a little poetic licence to explore his or her hidden talents. This section of the competition is very popular as medal positions are often determined by the exactness of this discipline. All team members participate in the Floor Programme.

Tumbling

Teams perform tumbling series on a long tumbling lane with good "streaming" i.e. consecutively and close to each other. The complete programme is performed to music. Each team performs three different rounds. Each series must consist of at least three different acrobatic elements, without intermediate steps. Only six members from the team can be chosen for each of the 'rounds'. This section can be very exciting when the gymnasts perform their tumbles close together. Often the excitement is increased by the choice of music.

Trampette

Teams perform saltos on Trampette with good streaming. At least one run in the Trampette program is done using a vaulting apparatus. The complete programme is performed to music. Each team performs three different rounds. Only six members from the team can be chosen for each of the 'rounds'. Again this section can be very exciting, and often helped by the choice of music.
